Carol Bundock Her Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk plants a tree for the Queen’s Green Canopy at GreenAcres Colney

Greenacres Colney invite Carol Bundock, Her Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk to join them to “Plant a tree for the Jubilee” at their award-winning Cemetery and Ceremonial Park in Colney, Norfolk. GreenAcres Colney are taking part in The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC). This unique tree planting initiative marks Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 and invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”. The Park Team are proud to be part of creating a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations. They provide a unique cemetery and ceremonial park serving the members of all faiths and communities creating a special place that is both tranquil and uplifting at a time of great sadness.

Park Manager Andy Wyles said: “It has been a privilege to be part of this project and the legacy it represents for our community. We chose to plant a Hornbeam as it fits perfectly with the surrounding native woodland but also because a mature tree can live for more than 200 years. We were honoured when Carol, who is a Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk, represented the Lord-Lieutenant as The Queen’s representative in Norfolk, agreed to plant the tree with us. She has planted it in a special place which will mark the entrance to a beautiful new area of the Park which we are opening beyond our existing woodland later this year.” Carol shared her thoughts on the service The Queen had given the UK: “The Queen has for most of us, always been there! Always in the public eye, she has maintained her dignity, poise and interest in people and weathered the inevitable storms of a long life so well. Yet she still smiles, and has the ability to make everyone she meets, feel very special.” She commented on the environmental legacy of The Queen’s Green Canopy: “It is a wonderful way of celebrating the Platinum Jubilee, and what better place to plant a tree than here at GreenAcres Colney. A place of peace and tranquility, with nature all around. I’ve conducted many services here as a Celebrant, and I think it totally fitting that another tree is added to the existing green canopy.”

The GreenAcres Group recently conducted a survey of over 2000 UK residents, asking people about environmental consciousness in relation to funerals. 53% of the responders stated that it was important to them, showing that there is shift in our awareness of the impact on the planet when planning a memorial of a loved one.
