The new area to the rear of Bluebell Glade is now open, with our first area and all of our trees ready for sale. Marrying together the aesthetic neatness of a traditional cemetery with the special feel of Greenacres Rainford with views across the site to the old coach road and beyond the Oak View area is appealing to all tastes.
When entering the new area you will notice our beautiful new avenue of trees with Persian Ironwood, Black Cherry Plum and Holm Oak, all of which have been specially selected by our experienced woodland team for a variety of reasons including their hardiness and magnificent displays which will delight families throughout the year.
Persian Ironwood (Parrotia persica) which has with spectacular autumn colours with yellow, orange, red and purple leaves with red flowers in spring contrasting beautifully with the grey bark. Its Latin name is Parrotia persica after the German naturalist Friedrich Parrot.
The black cherry plum (Prunus cerasifera ‘Nigra’) which has deep purple leaves with a multitude of pink flowers which will emerge in the spring and provide a marvellous contrast to the foliage.
Holm Oak (Quercus ilex) is an evergreen species of Oak which is native to the Mediterranean though it is a tough tree and therefore suited to the windy conditions at Rainford. The trees superficial similarity to holly due to its spiky, evergreen leaves has led to the colloquial name of holly oak. The acorns are dark red and thoroughly enjoyed by squirrels and other fauna.
